The world’s first performance festival uplifting, centering, & celebrating nonbinary identity!
2025 FESTIVAL
November 14–15 | San Francisco
Join us for the next THEYFRIEND Nonbinary Performance Festival happening November 14–15, 2025 at CounterPulse in San Francisco!
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
THEYFRIEND is the world’s first performance festival uplifting, centering, and celebrating nonbinary identity!
THEYFRIEND began in 2020 as a virtual artist salon featuring five national nonbinary performing artists. In 2021 we established THEYFRIEND as a festival and, since then, have steadily grown to feature a breadth of Bay Area, CA-based, national and international nonbinary performers at dynamic events in partnership with local queer organizations and arts venues. For more information about past festivals, visit our THEYFRIEND archive.
As the festival continues to grow, we are driven by the same goals: to present quality performance showcases featuring disparate nonbinary artists, and to offer a warm space for nonbinary artists of all gender expressions to find belonging and collaboration. Rather than expecting nonbinary performers to solely explore what it means to live beyond the binary, THEYFRIEND creates a simultaneously gender-free and gender-full container for gender expansive artists to imagine, play, dream and connect.
THEYFRIEND is supported by Borealis Philanthropy, the California Arts Council and the Zellerbach Family Foundation, and is presented in partnership with 510 Firehouse, Amazing Aeffects, Harvey Milk Center for the Arts, the LEATHER & LGBTQ Cultural District, OASIS, Queer LifeSpace, SOMArts Cultural Center and the Transgender District. Diamond Wave is a fiscally sponsored project of Intersection for the Arts that is supported by the California Arts Council, Grants for the Arts, Horizons Foundation, and the San Francisco Foundation.
