Call for Community Advisors!

Diamond Wave is pleased to announce our call for community advisors to guide the organization and support our development as a distinct voice in queer arts and culture in San Francisco and beyond. As a burgeoning organization founded on principles of queer liberation, Diamond Wave is seeking support from LGBTQIA2S+ identified community members and allies to guide our evolution.

We are currently seeking to recruit four (4) to six (6) new advisory board members to serve 2-year terms, 30 hours annually, for calendar years 2024 and 2025. Applications to join Diamond Wave’s advisory board are due Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

For questions, please reach out to Director Vin Seaman at vin@diamond-wave.org.

  • Diamond Wave is an artist-led cultural organization based in San Francisco. Fiscally-sponsored by Intersection for the Arts, the organization produces multidisciplinary artistic and cultural events that reflect the experiences of diverse LGBTQIA2S+ communities and our allies. Founded in 2018, we have created a trusted track record of inclusive programming and community-based consulting that authentically supports the growth and stability of our artists, arts workers, and communities.

We currently operate the THEYFRIEND nonbinary performance festival and auxiliary events centering nonbinary performers as well as artist-based workshops and consulting services aimed at removing barriers and bolstering skills for queer and trans artists, arts workers and culture bearers. Our programs and community-based work center principles of queer liberation, Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action. As such, we recognize that we cannot serve diverse and intersectional queer communities without recruiting, fully embracing and celebrating the unique qualities and diverse life experiences of our employees, advisors and artists.

  • Have Fun: As a Diamond Wave advisor, you’ll be asked to attend our public events and invited to closed events for our direct community. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at cultural production and get to be part of the magic!

Get Connected: Service on Diamond Wave’s advisory board provides connectivity to local artists and cultural ecosystems. Last year, we worked with 200+ queer artists and partnered with 15 different organizations to offer our myriad programs to LGBTQIA2S+ communities and our allies. Being part of Diamond Wave means being part of our Bay Area queer arts network.

Be Part of the Solution: Diamond Wave’s mission is rooted in queer liberation and actively champions diverse queer experiences (centering BIPOC, disabled folks, and trans and nonbinary peole) to ensure that our entire LGBTQIA2S+ community has a seat at the table.

  • We are seeking committed and kind-hearted individuals with the capacity to directly support a rapidly-growing arts organization. We are looking for people with diverse cultural and community backgrounds, and lived intersectional experience.

You might be a queer artist who is looking to ramp up their commitment to the Bay Area’s diverse and intersectional queer cultural ecosystem.

Or you might be a corporate or tech worker seeking to give back to your local community and to strengthen relationships with queer arts and artists.

Or you could be an expert in organizational effectiveness, marketing, finance (or another area) that loves supporting the growth and expansion of community-based organizations.

  • We are seeking folks that can help us spread the word about our programs and to help us be more connected to and with local, regional and national LGBTQIA2S+ communities and our allies! We want people that can be ambassadors for our work and that are ready to roll their sleeves up and dig into our programming.

Although specific employment or experience is not needed to join the Diamond Wave advisory board, the best candidates will be those with experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Marketing and Publicity: Signal boosting Diamond Wave marketing materials and events to support growth of our audience and community, which may include editing/reviewing press releases or supporting distribution to media outlets and contacts.

    • Donor/Sponsor Development: Supporting staff in engaging and growing our individual donor base and potential business sponsors, which may include hosting or supporting donor events or initiatives.

    • Business Development: Connection to potential clients to support earned income revenue for the organization, and supporting staff in creating mechanisms/systems to support organizational sustainability.

    • Creative: Supporting staff in cultivating new artists and community partners locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

  • Time commitment for advisors is approximately 30 hours annually, including:

    • 8 hours split between 4 quarterly 2-hour advisor meetings with Diamond Wave staff and the full advisory board (next meeting set for Thursday, May 23, 2024 with Q3 & Q4 board meetings yet to be determined)

    • A minimum of 8 hours throughout the year providing mentorship, guidance or program support

    • Approximately 4 hours of professional mentorship with Diamond Wave staff and/or artists

    • Approximately 10 hours attending or volunteering at at least 4 Diamond Wave events per year

Additionally, advisors must comply with the organization’s advisor giving policy by making a tax-deductible donation of at least $69 annually.
